Covering the Cost of Services

Medicare

Coverage for Hospice is available through Medicare if these two conditions are met:

  1. The patient is eligible for Medicare Part A, and receives care from a Medicare-approved Hospice Program.
  2. The patient has been diagnosed and medically certified by the patient's doctor and the hospice medical director to be suffering from certain and specific life-threatening illnesses.

Medicare pays the Hospice agency directly at specified rates depending upon the type of services and care given each day. There are no deductibles or co-pays.

Private Insurance

Your insurance often covers hospice care. The staff of First Call Hospice is trained to determine and explain your private insurance benefits. We will accept payment in full by negotiated rate from most private insurance programs.

Important Note: Patients enrolled in an HMO Medicare risk Insurance Plan have the right to remain with your HMO program and to select a Medicare Hospice Provider of your choice. Hospice patients are never billed directly for authorized care and services.

Hospice Support for Patients and Families

First Call Hospice can help the family with the cost of care by paying for medications. Hospice will also pay for all the durable medical equipment and supplies related to the terminal diagnosis.
